The reveal and launch of IONIQ 5 is just around the corner. We are aware of the fact that the all-electric EV will be launched at the 2023 Auto Expo.
Now, before we take a closer look at the new car, here are 10 things to know and expect from the IONIQ 5!
1. Design
Ok, agreed that the looks may be there but, the design of the IONIQ 5 is very unique. It’s futuristic but has some retro vibes with those square headlamps. Unlike most cars that are curvy, the IONIQ 5 is more squarish and boxy. The front headlights are flanked by L-shaped DRLs. It also gets a large LED strip that runs across the front. Lights are also square shaped like pixels. The front design is very minimalistic, with a sharp look on the bonnet and bold character lines.
The sides are joined by a set of massive 20” wheels that fill out the wheel arches really well. Wheel caps have a design that appears to have been made using a spirograph. The back is the same story as the front. It somehow looks a bit long and boxy from the back. The taillights are solid rectangles with pixel-inspired LEDs.
2. Admission
Inside the cabin, the Hyundai Ioniq 5 electric crossover gets adjustable front row seats with reclining function. The automaker claims that the cabin is made of sustainable materials such as bio-paint, eco-processed leather, as well as natural and recycled fibers. There is a center console that can be moved back and forth which frees up a lot of space in the center. The dashboard is dominated by a pair of 12-inch screens – one for the driver’s display and the other for infotainment – both housed in a large piece of glass. In terms of features, it gets an advanced head-up display with augmented reality functions, advanced driver assistance features, electrically adjustable front seats, ambient lighting, connected car tech, and ventilated seats.
3. Drivetrain
The Ioniq 5 will be offered with two battery options – 58 kWh and 72.6 kWh, with a choice of single motor setup or dual motor setup. The single motor setup will offer 167HP of power and 350Nm of torque. The top-spec model of the Ioniq 5 will be offered with a dual-motor setup and 72.6 kWh. This setup offers a power output of 298BHP and 605Nm of torque. This model is capable of going from 0 to 100 in just 5.2 seconds. It is based on the E-GMP platform which allows both 400 volt and 800 volt charging.
4. Platform
The IONIQ 5 is based on Hyundai’s Innate Electric E-GMP platform. Hyundai’s E-GMP platform is based on four pillars – modularity, efficiency, reliability, and usability. The platform is flexible and supports multiple body types be it sedans, hatches or SUVs. The chassis, battery, motor, and power electric system make up the E-GMP platform. The battery pack will be able to power electronic devices as well with its two-way charging plug. The Integrated Charging Control Unit (ICCU) charges both the high voltage as well as the auxiliary battery.
