Cupra Australia director, Ben Wilkes said, “We have strategically negotiated even sharper pricing for our Leon hot hatchback, as we have seen other leading names in the segment move forward. After that, more opportunities emerge.”
This includes the Ford Focus ST and Renault Megane RS, while the upcoming Toyota GR Corolla is expected to join the Volkswagen Golf R and Honda Civic Type R with an on-the-road price of around $70,000.
“Securing the 221kW high-performance hatch for under $60,000 before on-road costs in 2023 is a real achievement, as is the unique in-segment plug-in hybrid hatch providing up to 67km of electric-only range,” added. Wilkes.
“We do this at a time when price increases are affecting the entire industry, including our own SUV range, due to inflation, supplier costs and transport increases.”
