The grand reveal
As a first, the Hyundai IONIQ 5 was unveiled at the iconic Gateway of India in Mumbai. HMIL hosted a light show and a unique projection on the Gateway monument powered by three IONIQ 5 cars. The estimate was a demonstration of the IONIQ 5’s vehicle-to-load (V2L) capability. Three of the five projectors were powered by the three cars on display. V2L will also be able to power electronic or household appliances.
The IONIQ 5 is based on Hyundai’s Innate Electric E-GMP platform. It is Hyundai’s first car in India to be based on the E-GMP platform. Hyundai’s E-GMP platform is based on four pillars – modularity, efficiency, reliability, and usability. The platform is flexible and supports multiple body types be it sedans, hatches or SUVs. The chassis, battery, motor, and power electric system make up the E-GMP platform. The battery pack will be able to power electronic devices as well with its two-way charging plug. The Integrated Charging Control Unit (ICCU) charges both the high voltage as well as the auxiliary battery.
The IONIQ 5 will be offered with two battery options – 58 kWh and 72.6 kWh, with a choice of single motor setup or dual motor setup. The single motor setup will offer 167HP of power and 350Nm of torque. The top-spec model of the Ioniq 5 will be offered with a dual-motor setup and 72.6 kWh. This setup offers a power output of 298BHP and 605Nm of torque. This model is capable of going from 0 to 100 in just 5.2 seconds. It is based on the E-GMP platform which allows both 400 volt and 800 volt charging.
