Cnewcomers, BYDhas announced its first batch of sales figures in Australia.
VFACTS sales figures released today by the Federal Chamber of Automotive Industries (FCAI) show that 845 BYD Atto 3 electric SUVs were reported sold in November.
It has positioned the brand – which currently only sells the Atto 3 small SUV in Australia – as the country’s second best-selling electric vehicle brand behind Tesla, and MG, Hyundai, Polestar, Volvo and Ahead of Kia.

Comparing electric vehicle sales in November, the BYD Atto 3 is second on the best-selling podium in Australia behind the Tesla Model Y (1805), but ahead of the Tesla Model 3 (391), MG ZS EV (The exact number is unknown as its a petrol variant) and is indistinguishable from the Volvo C40 Recharge (243).
Therefore, the Atto 3 accounted for nearly one in five electric vehicles sold last month.
This is despite the fact that local deliveries of many just-registered BYD Atto 3 vehicles were temporarily halted in late October due to an Australian design around its child restraint Isofix anchor points and passenger airbag ‘off’ switch. Due to the issue of compliance with the rule. Deliveries resumed in mid-November.

Overall, electric vehicle sales totaled 4,457 for the month, which equates to a 4.7 percent market share.
Excluding light commercial vehicles – limited to the newly launched LDV eT60 ute (two units registered), and the LDV eDeliver 9 and Mercedes-Benz eVito electric vans – it rises to 6.5 per cent for passenger cars and SUVs.
Since Tesla didn’t report its data in 2021, sales of electric vehicles have grown 685 percent compared to the same month last year. Excluding the brand, this growth rate drops to 298 percent.

While dedicated EV nameplates are listed in the sales figures, cars sold under the same banner are grouped together as an internal combustion vehicle.
We’ve reached out to MG and Hyundai for sales data on the ZS EV and Kona Electric, which are based on Australia’s most popular small SUVs.
