Update, November 29: It has been announced this morning that Jimmy Barnes has been forced to withdraw from performing. Street Machine Summernats 35, as she needs urgent back and hip surgery that will keep her from performing for several months.
“As much as it kills me, I have to fix it so I can jump around the stage for another 50 years. I’m disappointed to miss the Summer Nets in January,” Jimmy Barnes said. “As everyone knows, it’s against my religion to blow gags but the doctors tell me I need an operation as soon as possible.”
We wish him a speedy recovery, and Barnesi has confirmed that he has already booked himself to headline the music at Smyrnatus 36 in January 2024.
While that’s bad news, the good news is that he’ll be replaced on Friday night by none other than Jon Stevens, Diesel and fellow Australian music icon Daryl Braithwaite.
He’ll be joined by Shannon Noel on stage at SN35 for what promises to be a truly epic Friday night. Andy Lopez says he was disappointed to lose Barnesi this year, but is equally excited to replace him: “We were really disappointed to hear about Jimmy’s situation, and we Sending all our love and best wishes for his recovery.” said.
“Jon Stevens is going to play his Noiseworks classics and all the great songs of his time fronting INXS,” he continued. “DIESEL has to be one of Australia’s best rock and rollers with his killer band. Everyone loves Knowles. Personally, I can’t wait to hear 10,000 Summer Knots fans singing Horses with Daryl Braithwaite. Could. We wish Jimmy the best. And can’t wait to see him at Summer Nets 36.
DJ Brooke Evers and hip-hop stars Bliss N Eso are still locked in for Saturday night, so it’s still shaping up to be a great weekend on the main stage at SN35.
