The E-GMP or Electric Global Modular Platform is Hyundai’s dedicated Battery Electric Vehicle (BEV) platform.
Hyundai Motor India Limited (HMIL) has announced that they will bring dedicated BEV platform E-GMP to India. The Hyundai IONIQ 5 will be the first model in India to feature this platform.

Conceived and engineered to pivot the future transformation of electric mobility, E-GMP will usher in a new league of electric vehicles for the new-age smart consumer in India.
Electric Global Modular Platform (E-GMP)
Hyundai’s E-GMP platform is based on four pillars – modularity, efficiency, reliability, and usability. The platform is flexible and supports multiple body types be it sedans, hatches or SUVs. The chassis, battery, motor, and power electric system make up the E-GMP platform. The battery pack will be able to power electronic devices as well with its two-way charging plug. The Integrated Charging Control Unit (ICCU) charges both the high voltage as well as the auxiliary battery.
Safety at E-GMP
E-GMP is a trusted platform and boasts of high security standards. The IONIQ 5 has already achieved a 5-star safety rating in G-NCAP. The chassis is designed to have enough crumple zones to ensure passenger safety. Structural integrity is maintained thanks to high-strength steel. The battery is also encased in a steel casing for maximum protection.
Hyundai IONIQ 5
The Hyundai IONIQ 5 is set to arrive in India in the coming months. Winner of the 2022 World Car of the Year, the IONIQ 5 is based on the E-GMP platform. The Ioniq 5 is offered with two battery options – 58 kWh and 72.6 kWh, with a choice of single motor setup or dual motor setup. The single motor setup offers 167HP of power and 350Nm of torque. The top spec model of the Ioniq 5 is offered with a dual motor setup and 72.6 kWh. This setup offers a power output of 298BHP and 605Nm of torque. This model is capable of going from 0 to 100 in just 5.2 seconds. The options with the IONIQ 5 are a testament to how modular E-GMP is.
