John Peterson Burnout Hall of Fame

Kicking tires is a way of life that has been spent decades burning rubber and entertaining crowds with countless dollars. This passion has grown into a community of auto enthusiasts led by the kings and queens of the sport and those who have devoted significant time and energy to supporting the drivers they love.

With that in mind, the Smyrnatus will recognize those who have contributed greatly to the sport by inducting the first six inductees into the John Peterson Burnout Hall of Fame and presenting them with a special numbered jacket. What is the choice?

This brand new award is named after the man credited as the father of the modern burnout competition, John Patterson. The Ford fanatic, engine builder, drag racer and all-round petrolhead first took what was known as wheel competition – a straight-line burnout with none of the flair of today’s drivers – and Flip over your head, with his driving skills crowding and thick clouds of smoke rising from the rear quarters of his car.

That was in 1977 and since then the sport has come a long way with burnout competitions being held not only in Australia but in many countries around the world.

The first six inductees into the John Patterson Burnout Hall of Fame exemplify the passion and dedication required to compete at the highest level, whether as drivers or dedicated personnel without whom burnout competitions like Smyrnatus would not exist.

Each of the inductees, along with John’s family, was presented with a specially numbered jacket to recognize their induction into the Hall of Fame. New inductees will be announced each year. Street Machine Smyrnatus.
