The Mercedes-AMG One hypercar is complete. A lap of the hallowed Nurburgring Nordschleife in 6:35.18 Minutes in the hands of GT3 racer, Maru Angel.
Previously held by the Porsche 911 GT2 RS MR (adapted by the tuning house Menthy Racing), the AMG One took the production car lap record by eight seconds.
The 20.832km layout of the Nordschleife is closed for most of the year due to the onset of the European winter, and the conditions weren’t exactly ideal for a lap.

Mercedes-AMG had booked the Nordschleife for a record attempt by 5:15pm, but conditions still dampened with Engel leaving it to lap at 5:14pm.
Coming through Kesselchen, you could see Angel wasn’t able to push through the wet patch on the track – so maybe even more time on the table.
Regardless, the AMG One ‘Ring’ is definitely put on and the confidence looks impressive. From the plane, it looks like Engel is driving a stuck-down GT3 racer compared to the busy record efforts set in the Lamborghini Aventador SVJ and Porsche 911 GT2 RS.

What is AMG One?

But a quick rundown on this hybrid AWD hypercar: It’s powered by a 1.6-litre V6 and a pair of electric motors, combined with 782kW of power, a 352km/h top speed and a 0-100km/h sprint of 2.9 seconds.
Only 275 will be made, and it borrows heavily from Formula One technology in its powertrain and aero tricks – including driver-activated DRS.

But without the rules, the AMG One is able to adjust the active ride height, with Race Plus mode dropping the front axle by 37mm, and the rear by 30mm. The One rides on specially developed Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 MO tires.
The AMG One spec is all sold out, even at the €2.8 million (A$4.3 million) price tag, so if you want to recreate Engel’s lap times, you won’t be able to now.
The Mercedes-AMG One is a special vehicle, and that’s not to take away from how impressive the AMG One’s timing is, but rather to put into perspective just how incredible Porsche’s sports cars are. .
