2023 Cupra Born Estimated Price

Cupra’s local arm said the Bourne had “gathered significant interest in Australia” with inquiries second only to the Formentor crossover, which is available in turbo-petrol or plug-in hybrid guise.

“Born is one. [battery electric vehicle] Cupra Australia director Ben Wilkes said the BEV with a long range of more than 500km, exclusive rear-wheel drive hot hatch dynamics, as well as interior space and large vehicle versatility.

“Its specification is ideal for the progressive Australian consumer who will be attracted to the same pricing as our other great hot hatch, the Leon VZX.”

That should equate to a price between $60,000 and $65,000 before on-road costs – or about $65,000 to $70,000 drive-away without available EV subsidies – with the Leon VZx priced at $61,490 plus on-road.

Powertrains, charging and driving range

Only the flagship Born will be offered in Australia, combining an 82kWh lithium-ion battery with an electric motor mounted on the rear axle.

The electric motor – featuring the ‘e-Boost’ performance pack as standard – produces 170kW and 310Nm, with a claimed 0-100km/h sprint time of seven seconds.

This allows for a claimed 511-km driving range, with support for 170kW DC fast charging.

However, this range figure is based on the more relaxed ADR and NEDC protocols, with a claimed 422km on Europe’s stricter WLTP standard.

“Combined with rear-drive, the Bourne will be unique in the market as a dedicated ‘hot hatch’ with quick throttle and steering response,” said Cupra Australia.

2023 Cupra Burn Euro NCAP



While the Cupra Bourne is yet to be rated by ANCAP, it has received five stars under the latest 2020-22 criteria from EuroNCAP.

It scores 93 percent for adult protection, 89 percent for children, 73 percent for vulnerable road users, and 80 percent for safety assistance.

The range features seven airbags (dual front, side, curtain, and front centre).

The following active safety equipment is fitted as standard:

Warranty and Servicing

As per the wide range of Cupra, Bourne will be covered by the brand’s five-year, unlimited-kilometre warranty.

Cupra Australia is yet to announce details on battery coverage and servicing information for its electric vehicles. High voltage components in its plug-in hybrid range are covered for eight years or 160,000 km, whichever comes first.
