The all-new Ford Ranger is Australia’s best-selling 4×4, with more than 5000 of the next-generation model sold in October 2022.

Supply seems to be catching up with demand as 2022 approaches, overall 5147 Ranger 4×4 units were sold for the month.giving it a staggering 30.8 percent share of the total light commercial vehicle (LCV) market.

The Toyota Hilux still holds a 20.9 percent share of the LCV 4×4 market, moving 3,492 units for the month, according to sales figures so far in 2022.

In more good news for the Blue Oval, the Ranger has overtaken the Hilux on the overall charts to become the best-selling vehicle in October – a title the HiLux will continue to hold until 2022.

When 4×2 and 4×2 units are combined, a total of 5628 Ranger sales were registered in October. The ever-popular Hilux came second overall, recording 4,890 sales. Toyota’s Rav4 was third (3222 sold).

The HiLux is still the best-selling 4×4 vehicle on the year-to-date charts, with 40,058 sales compared to the Ranger’s 34,536.

Australia’s thirst for light commercial vehicles doesn’t seem to be abating either, with the LCV market growing by 10.9% compared to October 2021 – a total of 2103 more LCVs sold.

The SUV market is also on the rise compared to October 2021 – up 37.1 percent in October this year. It’s the passenger car market that continues to bear the brunt of these consumer shifts, with sales down 16.5 percent this month.

Within the SUV market, Ford recorded 1,271 sales of its next-generation Everest, up from 801 sales in September 2022 due to stock filtering for customers.

Also, Toyota experienced a decent month for its 300-series Land Cruiser, with 1,217 units sold – up from 634 sales in September 2022.

Perhaps symptomatic of the current economic climate, budget utes from LDV and GWM continue to sell well and remain in the top 10 on the 4×4 sales chart.

The LDV T60 recorded 893 sales in the month, while the GWM Cannon sold 684.
