TVS Racing—India’s first factory racing squad—has rewritten an important chapter in history.
In the Indian Open Unlimited class, the team recently won two awards at The Valley Run 2022 drag racing event (up to 390 cc) at Ambe Valley Airfield in Pune. With its turbocharged TVS Apache RR 310 and 40 years of racing experience, the factory racing team broke the previous record for the fastest quarter mile in the Indian Open Drag Racing class.
10-time INMRC champion Jagan Kumar of TVS Racing set a new quarter mile record with a brilliant time of 11.523 seconds. KY Ahmed finished second with a time of 11.996 seconds for the quarter mile. The significantly modified engine of the TVS Apache RR 310 produces almost twice the power of the bike’s street counterpart.
The TVS Racing team used an electronically controlled turbocharger and other appropriate powertrain upgrades, creating yet another impressive technical milestone. The engine was outfitted with titanium connecting rods, lighter forged pistons and titanium valves. Along with Quick Shift and Launch Control, the electronic system is programmable and closed-loop. An aerodynamically efficient carbon fiber body construction with carbon fiber wheels and subframe improved the power-to-weight ratio.
To achieve a stable and minimal weight transfer effect during maximum acceleration, the ride height was lowered. By extending the swing arm, the wheelbase was extended, which effectively moved the center of gravity forward and stopped the wheels when accelerating. Thanks to additional preparations for the event, the motorcycle was 37 percent lighter than its street-legal counterpart.
Celebrating this incredible feat, Mr. Vimal Simbly, Head Business – Premium, TVS Motor Company said, “TVS Racing broke the all-time drag racing record in the Indian Open Class up to 390cc at The Valley Run this weekend. Another milestone has been achieved in 2022. After pacing the field of Indian two-wheeler motorsport across all formats, the Factory Racing team now successfully showcases its drag racing prowess with our champions Jagan Kumar and KY Ahmed. What’s up and made us proud once again.
With this new feather in our cap, I am confident that the TVS Racing Team will continue to write success stories in domestic championships and events, putting India on the global map of motorsport as well. Our emphatic win at this edition of The Valley Run is indeed a testament to the team’s continued efforts to enhance its technical prowess and maintain its undisputed leadership in the field of two-wheeler motorsport. I would like to congratulate the team for this win and wish them all the best for the future.”
