Volkswagen India announced that it has received 45,000 bookings for the Taigun mid-size SUV since its launch in September last year. The carmaker has also delivered 28,000 units of the model since September 2021. The Volkswagen Taigun received a five-star safety rating in the first round of the latest Global NCAP crash test. It achieved a five-star rating for adult and child protection, making it the first model along with its cousin, the Skoda Kushaq, to achieve the feat under GNCAP’s ‘Safer Cars for India’. Volkswagen has recently increased the prices of the Taigun by Rs 26,000. However, the Anniversary Edition is offered with savings of up to Rs 30,000.
The special edition based on the top-line variant was launched to commemorate the compact SUV’s first anniversary in the country. The Volkswagen Taigun comes with two turbo-petrol engine options – a 115PS/178Nm 1-litre and a 150PS/250Nm 1.5-litre. Transmission options include a standard 6-speed manual, an optional 6-speed torque converter (for the 1-liter engine), and a 7-speed DSG (1.5-liter motor). The 1-litre TSI variant has a claimed mileage of 18.10kmpl (MT) and 16.44kmpl (AT), while the 1.5-litre TSI returns a claimed 18.47kmpl (MT) and 17.88 (AT). The Taigun is 4,221mm long, 1,760mm wide, 1,612mm tall and has a 2,651mm wheelbase.
In August this year, Skoda Volkswagen announced that it had taken over global responsibility for the production of models based on the MQB A0 platform for the VW Group. The announcement follows Skoda’s India-specific derivative of the platform – the MQB A0 IN – that spawned the VW Taigun SUV. Volkswagen offers the Taigen in two broad trims: Dynamic Line and GT Line and the SUV gets five color options – Curcuma Yellow, Wild Cherry Red, Candy White, Reflex Silver, and Carbon Steel Grey. The VW Taigun packs a 10.1-inch infotainment system with wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, an 8-inch digital driver display that’s only available on top-spec variants, ambient lighting, a single-pane sunroof, a wireless phone charger. Ventilated front seats, cruise control, and keyless entry with push-button start. Passenger safety is protected by six airbags, ABS with EBD, tire pressure monitoring, a reverse camera with parking sensors, and an electronic stability program.
